Acting as a natural barrier separating the cool, damp Atlantic climate from the hot,dry Mediterranean climate, The “ Picos de Europa” summon images of incomparable beauty when it comes to wilderness areas. Crowned by vertical limestone peaks, while dotted in the lower regions by picturesque mountain villages, this spectacular range of mountains offers a wide variety of eco-systems. Alpine summits drop vertiginously into crystal clear mountain rivers, where salmon are commonplace, while lush grasslands extend from the riverbanks giving way to dense forests of beech and oak.
Home to natural icons like the brown bear and iberian wolf, while notably famous for its bird species, this natural wonderland is also the perfect place to find large varieties of orchids and other similarly spectacular endemic plants, one of these being the brightly coloured Digitalis parviflora.
